Life made new
One of the most fun, rewarding, and emotional things I get to do with my photography is capture Baptisms at my church. I have attended Life.Church for 12 years now and Baptism Bash weekends are by far my favorite. They are a time of celebration. A time for a fresh start where our old life is gone, and we are made new in Christ. I love watching people right before they go under the water. The emotion, tears, love, faithfulness, and the dream of a better life to be.
This year my church held Baptism during the first weekend of the year and I thought it was absolutely brilliant. Don't we all look forward to the first of the year to "start over" on things that we failed at last year. We all make resolutions that we are so excited to actually achieve this time. But as statistics state, 80% of those resolutions fall to the back burner by February. I am one of those that has really good intentions at the beginning of the week. I aim to eat right, exercise every day, stay on top of work, etc... and then by Wednesday-ish, I slack. I start finding the snacks and I get lazier. I always look forward to the weekend so I can get everything back on track and start again.
However, while watching Baptisms I started thinking...I am wasting my days. I am wasting days holding my breath waiting to get back on track. The most amazing gift we are given is the opportunity for another day. We aren't promised it. It is a gift and another opportunity to start over again. We are going to have bad days. We are going to get our heart broke, slip off our diet, be lazy, cry, and that is ok. Let yourself have a day. Then go to bed, say a prayer, give your worries and burdens to God, and wake up ready to take on the world. God did not promise that this life would be easy, but He did promise it would be worth it...and it is.
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33
